The Lonesome Ace Stringband is John Showman on fiddle, Max Heineman on bass, and Chris Coole on banjo (all sing). This band came together from doing endless "bluegrass brunch" gigs at Toronto's landmark roots bar The Dakota Tavern. Although all three had played together for years in The Foggy Hogtown Boys, the music they came up with as a trio seemed different enough to warrant a new band. Although they consider themselves an "Old Time" band, the sound and approach maybe doesn't have an obvious link to any "pure" strain of traditional music...which is fine by them. They just love playing together--- and it shows. For more information or to check out the music visit - www.lonesomeace.com
Dinner (optional) with the band: 6 pm: $20 Reserve asap -- our dinners always sell out! Menu includes authentic Thai cuisine featuring green curry and papaya salad.

POST-CONCERT: JAMMING WITH THE BAND - BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT/S!
Mark Tamsula and Richard Withers, with Barb Rosner: Old Time Music of Southwestern Pennsylvania
The Great Room is delighted to present an afternoon of old time fiddle fun, with a concert by visiting Pittsburgh old time music icons Mark Tamsula and Richard Withers, served with a side of home-made chili (vegetarian and not) and freshly baked cornbread on a winter Sunday afternoon. Our own Bay Area old time performer Barb Rosner will join this special music event.
Tamsula and Withers are giving new life to a regional music tradition. Their new album Rural Valley Melodies presents 13 tracks of traditional Appalachian music historically rooted in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Mark and Richard perform tunes collected by the renowned music historian Samuel Bayard. If that weren't enough, it will be a treat to have Barb back with us for a day or two at least!
The program will start at 1 pm (doors open at 12:30) with a fiddle workshop until 2:30 pm, then an hour to jam until the concert starts at 3:30 pm (until 5) and the whole enchilada (or any part thereof) for a suggested donation of $20 per person. PLUS Richard will lead the teaching of some of the tunes as banjo pieces during the workshop, so there will be a great opportunity for banjo players as well. Jamming afterwards until the cows get tired and go home.... Chili and cornbread buffet throughout the afternoon: $5 per person donation. BYOB if desired.
Reservation form below --- please indicate which concert you wish to attend on the form and let us know if you'll want vegetarian or meat chili! Thanks --- we're looking forward to a wonderful, memorable day with Mark, Richard and Barb!
If you'd like to take home one of Suzanne's tasty Seedy Baguettes send a text to 415.519.8031 at least one day before the event you're attending and she'll have one ready for you to take home! Warm from the oven and made with organic flours and seeds, $6 each

BYOB means you are welcome to bring your own beverages (we offer water, coffee, tea only) and we can provide glassware, openers, some fridge space. Additional beverages brought to share are always appreciated by fellow attendees -- and our neighborhood Summit Store is open until 8 pm if you want to pick up beverages on your way to us.
